An international special prize will be delivered to Nikos Megrelis for his doc film "Shooting vs Shooting" by Cutuli Institution of Sicily,Italy.
The institution was founded in 2008 by four major Universities of Sicily and by the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera to honor the memory of Maria Grazia Cutuli,who lost her life in 2001along with three other colleagues in Afghanistan. A group of gunmen,presumed Taliban, ambushed their convoy, dragged them out of the cars ,marched them into the surrounding hills and executed them in cold blood.
The ceremony will take place in Catania on the 24th of November
with the presence of the Italian Minister of Interior.
The award will be handed to Nikos Megrelis by the President of Cutuli Institution and director of Corriere della Sera Ferrucio de Bartoli.

Nikos Megrelis "Shooting vs Shooting" documentary is going to be screened in the European Parlament on Monday the 5th of December 2011. The initiative belongs to the greek members of EU Parliament Mrs. Chrysoula Paliadeli, Spyros Danellis and Yorgos Hatzimarkakis. The screening is going to take place in Room ASP 5G2 at 18:30.
The documentary of journalist Nikos Megrelis, “Shooting vs. Shooting”, was the only Greek participation in this year’s Al Jazeera Festival, which drew its curtain last Sunday. Despite the 284 participants from 92 countries, the Greek documentary succeed to be one of the three finals for the Best Film Award of the 7th International Al Jazeera Documentary Festival. It contented for the great award of the Festival with the documentaries “Sons of the Sea” by Michael Lynch and “Pink Saris” by multi-awarded British director Kim Longinotto, who won the Golden Award. The documentary “Shooting vs. Shooting”, lasting 74’, is a penetrating view of the case of foreign journalists and reporters who have been killed during the war in Iraq. The film was particularly honored by the Festival, as it was presented the best day and hour of the event (Saturday 8:00 p.m.) and met with warm applause by the audience and positive critics. “Shooting vs. Shooting” is also going to participate in Novi Sad and in Algiers Festival this June.
